(2024)

As a child, I believed that flushing a goldfish down the toilet would release it into nature’s vast, open waters—a belief that now feels painfully naive. What was meant to be an act of freedom became a cruel and irreversible fate. As the fish spiraled toward the drain, freedom and finality seemed to blur together, freeing and trapping it at once.
At that moment, it became clear how little was understood about the consequences of such actions. A bittersweet nostalgia lingers, for water’s contradictory nature—it can give life, yet it can also take it away. It serves as a reminder of how easily the impact of our choices is miscalculated. The fish, once thought to be freed, ended up trapped in an endless loop. Still, a faint, lingering hope remains—that, despite the tragic irony, it was somehow set free.
